I spend a lot of time (more than I should) looking at the profiles of software engineers.
After two years of saving engineers in a notes app, I built My Dev List , a directory for the profiles I kept reopening.
I add someone when I catch myself thinking: “There’s knowledge, experience or interests that this person has that would be cool to have right now.”
A few examples:
- Matt Pocock , a great engineer and educator who’s transferred all that knowledge into AI engineering, in a way that’s not just a pundit or hype, but an engineer using the tools the way an engineer would.
- Evan Bacon , his mastery of React Native, open source and personal community building is a great example of how focus and passion make up a world-class product engineer.

- Kelsey Hightower , one of my favourite technical communicators, he has shaped my importance of being able to communicate ideas well.
- Daniel Hollick , South African-born design engineer at Cursor. Someone from home building beautiful software (publicly) is a reminder of what’s possible from here.
It takes a good set of examples to set the bar for what great looks like. For me that’s my My Dev List .
